Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 July 2026
Vikneo is a menu-bar screen-capture app for macOS developed by Inweb (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what Vikneo does with your data. Vikneo does not sell personal data, show advertising, or use cross-app tracking. You choose whether captures stay local, go to Vikneo Cloud, or go directly to a server you configure.
Vikneo Cloud is optional. When selected, it stores the captures you choose to upload and provides unlisted share links. Local-only and own-server modes do not send captures to Vikneo Cloud. The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.
What Vikneo processes
Vikneo processes data on your device and at the destination you choose:
- Screenshots & recordings. Captures are saved locally on your Mac. If you select Vikneo Cloud, the capture, filename, media type, size, upload time, and link identifier are stored for sharing and quota management. If you select Own server, the capture is sent directly to the FTP, FTPS, or SFTP server you configure and does not pass through Vikneo Cloud.
- Text recognition (OCR). When you copy text from a screen area, recognition runs on-device using Apple’s Vision framework. The temporary screenshot is deleted afterward and is not uploaded.
- Vikneo Cloud account. We store an email address, account ID, plan, storage quota, usage, and a one-way hash of the access token. The token itself is shown when issued and stored in the macOS Keychain on your device.
- Server credentials. The password for your own upload server is stored in the macOS Keychain. It is sent only to the server you configure as required by the selected transfer protocol.
- Settings & history. Your preferences and a local list of recent uploads are stored on your Mac so the app can show upload history and retry failed uploads.
Permissions Vikneo requests
- Screen & System Audio Recording. Required by macOS to take screenshots and record the screen. Vikneo uses it only for captures you trigger. Audio is never recorded.
- Accessibility (direct build only). Used to send scroll events for scrolling capture. This feature is not present in the Mac App Store version.
Data we collect
Only Vikneo Cloud users provide data to us: account contact information, an account identifier, the captures they choose to upload, and the upload metadata described above. This data is linked to the account solely to authenticate uploads, provide links, enforce quotas, and support the service. We do not use it for advertising, marketing profiles, or tracking.
Third parties
Vikneo Cloud runs on Cloudflare Workers, R2, and D1. Cloudflare processes requests and stores cloud content and account metadata on our behalf as a service provider. When you choose Own server, that server’s owner and privacy terms govern its handling of the uploaded file.
Sharing, retention, and deletion
Vikneo Cloud links are not listed publicly, but anyone who receives a link can view its file, so treat links as shareable secrets. You can delete a Vikneo Cloud file from Capture History; its public link then stops working while the local copy remains on your Mac. Account records and non-deleted cloud files are retained while the cloud account is active or as needed to operate and secure the service. Contact us to request account deletion.
Security
Vikneo Cloud uses encrypted HTTPS connections, keeps its object bucket private, and stores access-token hashes rather than raw tokens. No system can guarantee absolute security; do not upload content you are not authorised to share.
Children
Vikneo is a productivity tool and is not directed at children.
Changes
