Getting started
- Vikneo lives in the menu bar. Click the icon to capture, record, or open Settings.
- On your first capture, macOS asks for Screen & System Audio Recording permission. Grant it, then quit and reopen Vikneo.
- Open Settings to choose local storage, Vikneo Cloud, or your own server and configure shortcuts.
Default shortcuts
- Area capture — ⌘⇧8
- Full-screen capture — ⌘⇧7
- Scrolling capture, direct edition only — ⌘⇧5
- Copy text (OCR) — ⌘⇧6
- Start / stop area recording — ⌘⇧9
Available shortcuts can be changed in Settings. Scrolling capture is not included in the Mac App Store edition.
Setting up uploads
In Settings, first choose where captures should go:
- Local only — keep the capture on your Mac and copy its path.
- Vikneo Cloud — enter your access token to upload and receive a shareable link.
- Own server — choose a protocol and enter the server details below.
- Protocol — FTPS (TLS) or SFTP (SSH) are recommended because they encrypt the session.
- Host, Port, Username, Password — for your server. The password is saved securely in the macOS Keychain.
- Upload path — the folder on the server where files are written.
- Base URL — the public web address that maps to that folder, used to build the link copied to your clipboard.
Common questions
Capture doesn’t work
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, enable Vikneo, then quit and reopen the app.
An upload failed
Open History from the menu bar to see the exact error and retry the upload. Double-check the host, port, credentials, and upload path.
Does Vikneo record audio?
No. Recordings capture the screen only.
Where are my files stored?
Always locally on your Mac. Depending on the destination you choose, a copy may also be stored in Vikneo Cloud or on your own server. See the privacy policy.
